Jamaa (pronounced Jah-mah) means family in Swahili. As a cultural heritage center rooted in ancestral wisdom, care and practices, we honor the sacred traditions of African Indigenous midwifery to preserve, protect, and reclaim Black birth and community wellness. Through care, culture, and education, we confront birth and reproductive injustice and erasure while uplifting generational healing.
The Historic Jamaa Birth Village Cultural Heritage Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Ferguson, Missouri, serving the greater St. Louis region and beyond.
